Special graduate program [Infrastructure]

Admission

The program accepts students in two semesters: April or October enrollment. Students can be admitted with a Japanese government scholarship (MEXT), other scholarships, or private funding. There are six major admission pathways into the program.
They are:

  • Admission with MEXT* (University Recommendation under the Special Program) Scholarship
  • Admission with MEXT (Embassy Recommendation) Scholarship
  • Admission with MEXT (University Recommendation, General) Scholarship
  • Admission with JICA’s Scholarship (JDS, ABE Initiative, PEACE, JICA-FRIENDSHIP Project, etc.)
  • Admission with candidate’s home country’s scholarship (Chinese Government Graduate Student Overseas Study Program, Indonesia government LPDP, other countries’ government scholarship)
  • Admission with private funding for International Students

*MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, Japan, Monbukagakusho

2. Admission with MEXT Scholarship (Embassy Recommendation)

MEXT Scholarship is also offered through the Japanese Embassy in the applicant's home country on a competitive basis, which is not restricted to Yokohama National University. Anyone interested can contact the Japanese Embassy in their home country.

3. Admission with MEXT (University Recommendation, General) Scholarship

University Recommendation is a type of selection that students are recommended to MEXT by the Japanese university which will accept you as a research student.

4. Admission with JICA’s Scholarship (ex. JDS, ABE Initiative, PEACE, JICA-FRIENDSHIP, JICA SDGs Global Initiatives, etc.)

JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is providing various opportunities to study in the master and the doctor course in Japan. Candidates wishing to study in this program with a JICA scholarship must apply to the relevant JICA program and select Yokohama National University as their preferred university.

5. Admission with candidate’s home country’s scholarship (Chinese Government Graduate Student Overseas Study Program, Indonesia government LPDP, other countries’ government scholarship)

For other countries’ government scholarships, please select a professor whom you wish to be advised from the faculty list, and consult with the professor by sending an applicant's curriculum vitae, transcripts and certificates of previous degrees, study plan, and financial recourses. The prospective academic advisor will guide the procedure to be followed after evaluating the documents.

6. Admission with Private Funding for International Students

The International students can admit to both the master and the doctor course with their private funding or scholarship sources other than MEXT and JICA. International students must select a professor from the faculty list whom they wish to be advised by sending an applicant's curriculum vitae, transcripts and certificates of previous degrees, study plan, and financial recourses.
