Though Japanese language proficiency is not required for study and research purposes in the Department of Civil Engineering, the basic Japanese language abilities will help students to carry out daily activities such as travel, shopping, sightseeing, etc. The Department of Civil Engineering offers its own Japanese language courses focusing special needs of students admitted to the special graduate program in English. Basically, international students belonging to department of the Civil Engineering can attend these classes.

Master Students: International Infrastructure Studio in Basic Japanese
Doctoral Students: International Infrastructure Practice in Basic Japanese
*Four credits will be awarded for this class after one year of attendance at three weekly lectures.

• To introduce Japanese language, culture, customs, and the way of thinking of Japanese people.
• To help international students adjust smoothly to life in Japan.
• To guide and support foreign students in various aspects, such as communicating with public offices, applying for documents, visiting medical facilities, and receiving counseling when facing life challenges.
• To offer a cross-cultural environment in the class, which includes students from various countries.
• The class also provides opportunities to share personal challenges and experiences.
